The biggest sporting event on the planet kicks off June 11, 2026 — and Arlington, Texas is one of its centerpieces. With nine matches scheduled at AT&T Stadium, including a Round of 16 fixture and a semifinal, the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex is about to absorb more international visitors in a single month than it has in any year of its history.
If you live, work, or commute anywhere from Denton to Waxahachie, the World Cup is going to touch your daily life. Here is what to expect.
DFW Is Hosting More Matches Than Almost Anyone
Across the 2026 tournament, only a handful of venues across the United States, Canada, and Mexico are hosting nine matches. AT&T Stadium is one of them — a host load matched only by Mexico City and a small group of co-hosts. The matches scheduled here include:
- Five group-stage fixtures across the opening two weeks
- A Round of 32 knockout match
- A Round of 16 knockout match
- A quarterfinal
- A semifinal on July 14, 2026
That semifinal is one of only two on US soil. For perspective: the last time DFW hosted a single event of comparable global scale was Super Bowl XLV in 2011 — and that was one game, not nine over six weeks.
Where the Crowds Will Be
Match day traffic will concentrate around three main zones.
Arlington’s entertainment district. AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field, Texas Live!, and the surrounding hotel corridor will be the gravity center of every match day. Expect I-30 between Fort Worth and Dallas to slow to a crawl four to six hours before kickoff and well into the night after the final whistle.
Fan Fest Dallas at Fair Park. Free-to-attend public viewing parties, music, food, and FIFA-sanctioned programming will run throughout the tournament. Fair Park’s footprint can hold tens of thousands of fans per day, and DART rail to the venue is expected to run at capacity.
Sundance Square and downtown Fort Worth. Bars and watch parties along Houston Street, plus the Trinity Park corridor, will draw the supporters who could not get match tickets but want the live atmosphere. Fort Worth PD has already announced expanded weekend patrols.
For Denton County residents, the practical impact is on I-35E south and 183 east toward DFW Airport. Both will see sustained heavy delays on match days. If you can avoid driving south of Lewisville on a match afternoon, do it.
A Few Things Locals Are Underestimating
Hotel and rideshare pricing will be unrecognizable. Surge pricing on Uber and Lyft routinely cleared 4x to 6x during the 2022 World Cup in cities far smaller than DFW. Plan rides in advance, or stay overnight where you land.
Border-area traffic will spike. With matches in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey running concurrently, I-35 north and south of the metroplex will see heavier-than-usual interstate movement of fans driving to multiple host cities.
Public alcohol enforcement will be elevated. Arlington, Dallas, and Fort Worth police departments have all publicly indicated expanded patrols around fan zones, with a particular focus on public intoxication, DWI, and disorderly conduct. Denton County deputies have signaled the same posture for the I-35 corridor.
If Things Go Sideways
Big crowds and high emotions create a predictable pattern of arrests — most of them non-violent. Public intoxication, disorderly conduct, DWI, and minor assault charges spike measurably during major sporting events. If you or someone you know gets booked into the Denton County Jail, Dallas County, or Tarrant County during the tournament, the bail process does not stop for the World Cup.
Magistration still happens within 48 hours. Bonds are still posted around the clock. Same-day release is still possible — but turnaround at the jails will be slower than usual because of volume. Calling a licensed bondsman early in the process matters more during the tournament than at any other time of the year.
Act Rapid Bail Bonds will be staffed 24/7 throughout the entire tournament, with bondsmen positioned across Denton, Dallas, and Ellis Counties. If you need help, call (940) 442-5353 — we can start the release process before you finish the call.
The Bigger Picture
Whatever happens between the lines at AT&T Stadium, the 2026 World Cup is going to be the most internationally visible month in DFW history. Hotels in Denton are already over 80% booked for June. Restaurants from McKinney to Mansfield are hiring. The metroplex is going to look, sound, and feel different.
Make a plan, watch the matches, and have a safe ride home. We will be here if you need us.
